I lived in Beijing for 1 year and when it was time to come back to Indonesia, I always miss Beijing street food. Like jianbing, shao kao, ma la tang, ma la xiang guo, kao leng mian, etc. When I first came back to Indonesia, Beijing food wasn't as popular as it is right now. But suddenly I heard shao kao opened and after that jian bing and last -at this moment- is ma la tang. Got very disappointed every time cause the taste is very different with the original one in Beijing. Still.. not lost hope for finding the same taste like it's origin. So, this was the first time I tried another Beijing street food that recently opened in Neo Soho, Ma La Tang. Ma La Tang is spicy numbing hot soup. Originated from Sichuan, and very popular in Beijing. Ma La Tang main ingredients are dried chilli pepper and Sichuan pepper (Ma La). Ma La has a numb feeling after eating them. Be careful with it.. lols.. In this restaurant, the ingredients is displayed on shelves and customer can pick their desired ingredients into a bowl. In this case, there're noodles, fish cakes, meats, and veggies. The price is calculated Rp 220/gram. It seems cheap at the first seen, but after you pick and pick it actually a little pricey.. There're a lot of sauces and condiments you can choose. Mala sauce, garlic sauce, peanut sauce, sesame oil, chili, sugar, salt and soy sauce. For me, I choose peanut sauce for the main sauce and put another sauces and condiments to my liking. I taste first in the sauce area. Lucky no one there.. lols.. There're 2 types of cooking here, fried and soup. The one I tried here is their fried one. Well.. the taste quite good but it's not the same with the one in Beijing. Lack of Mala and well.. just different in every aspect. But I think I will come back again to tried the soup cause maybe it's more similar that I used to eat. Address
