I noticed how many kopitiam in Jakarta right now, named like Kopi(tiam) oey, bangi kopi(tiam), kopitiam, yakun kaya toast, q kopi(tiam) etc. It's everywhere! But I always confuse what kopitiam really means. I've search at the internet and the real meaning of kopitiam is kopi (coffee) and tiam (shop). It originally came from Malaysia and Singapore. In it's origin, kopitiam sell a variety of foods based on egg, toast, kaya, coffee, tea and milo milk. But somehow, it twisted and develop into cafe. Hehe. Kopi Oey, used to be kopitiam oey, is quite famous here. Located in Sabang and always full of people until night. I ordered 3 main menu, which all the name is written in old traditional melayu languange. One is nasi tjapjay babah day. It is mixed vegetables (carrot, chinese cabbage, sweet corn, cauliflower, ear mushroom, and meatball) So yummy! But what I loved the most is their rice. It's kindda fried rice, with eggs and buttery smell. Bakmi djawa goreng, with crakcer and pickle. Top of it is fried shallots. I can say you can find the noodle in everywhere. But the taste is great! The two other menu is yeayy, but this is the one that I like the most, Sop ikan dori or dory soup. The taste is a little sour because of the pineapple, a little bit chilli, a little bit spicy because of the pepper, so all taste in one bowl. The dory was crispy fried and become a bit soft of the soup. Nice! Here is the interior. I don't know what to say in English. But it called Chinese peranakan in Indonesia. Nice right? One think that I need to complain about is their services. The servant asked me to wait for the table with no chair while I wait for another table cleaned up. Address
